Heard today Desoto is closing due to budget cuts. Also heard that as part of the budget state run beds will be closed before private beds. Looks like the private providers win again!
As a primary provider of jobs in Desoto county, it is likely the whole county will feel the effect of this closure. The effect will also be felt by those that have to deal with the severe emotional and psychiatric problems the youth at Desoto have.
We are devasted at hearing the announcement today at DJCF. Not sure what we are going to do. Over 500 jobs being lost. Not to mention we love working with the troubled boys and girls committed to our facility.
Add Hillsborough East and Osceola Detention Centers to the closure lists. Dorm Wings and jobs are also being cut at Dade and Orange JDC. Nearly 600 jobs are being cut overall at DJJ.
Perhaps its part of Rick Scott's plan to create 7000 jobs in Florida. Fire all the state workers, then rehire them to work at minimum wage in his corporation run facilities. The bottom line is less care for the children and more profit for those at the top of the food chain.

From what I understand, all juvenile facilities run by the state will close. Facilities run by coorporations will remain open. State run adult correctional facilities are being cut, as well as the state police. It's a good time for criminals.
Wansley put out an email today praising all the "progress" that the Dept made in the last legislative session. Guess we'll tell that to the 650 people losing their job in the agencies.
I wonder how many private provider bigwigs are going to be losing their jobs? Kaplan anyone, anyone!

Hey, you whiners...you may just be getting what you deserve. Many of you KNEW for years what was going on in DJJ but you didnt speak out because you feared for your jobs. Well, you see where that got you.
I am glad that Barrerio name still graces this webpage. The porno allegations are very close to defamation---particularly if you are familiar with the "investigation' so I suggest you watch it...at least---even if it was because of political ideations--at least he took on this filthy agency. And he did it knowing it could be his downfall. How many of you have done that? As for Sexy Rexy, I agree. Good riddance. Now when is the Secretary finally going to get rid of the really bad apples---such as, hmmm, how HAS Jennifer Parker kept her job through several administratinos---all led by men of course....how many little alligatior tattoos you got climbinb up your thigh by now, Jen? And what about slime Eubanks and Greenfield--they'll do whatever it takes, whatever is asked of them, no matter if it entails lies. If Wansley doesnt clean up her top management, then she might as well join them all in the gutter. And by the way, many of us will be able to get jobs---don't necessarily think the wages will be lower. You might just find that your lives improve significantly. What I want to know, is, gee, for years we had such a problem, we had to put SO many kids in places like DEsoto, drug them to their eyeballs, in places led by idiotic administrators---are these kids suddenly "cured"?
To the previous anoymous post....if you're so intune with the injustice of DJJ maybe you should keep up to date first. Parker has been gone for months. Rex was bad from the beginning, even the first time he worked for DJJ. If you ever worked with Gus you would know the truth about how slimey he really was. Only one interoffice head is still in place there.
What happened at the protest rally for DeSoto at the DJJ HQ building on Friday???
To the previous poster: I never said I was so "in tune" with DJJ. In fact it is a mystery to me how long this sorry agency has existed. But good to hear about Parker--pity the next agency she lands in bed with.

Wow, how will you sweep this one under the rug Major Roberts. A staff shows up to work under the influence of alcohol and then is sent home. Was this not the same staff that you placed on another shift to due to no show no call for duty on several occassions. Then does the same thing on their new shift, and nothing done again. WHY NOT? Great role model Major Roberts!!! I bet something will be done now.
