My Two Cents - November 2011

"My Two Cents!" is a place to speak your mind about what troubles (and inspires) you about Florida's juvenile justice system and the Department of Juvenile Justice, in particular.

The Girls Advocacy Project and the D.J.J. money that went to it gets a closer look.

All I can say, is like her or not, the nurse that they scorched at DJJ for trying to do her job--as well as a few of her superiors (we all know what that means!)--she at least spoke out and told the truth. She is in her 3rd year of wrangling with DJJ and trial is coming up soon. A lot of skeletons are going to be falling out of a lot of closets--

Just read the tampa bay blog on Ms. Vicki's little "enterprise." Me thinks she doth protest too much. An awful lot of uncertainty and making it look legit...typical DJJ. Good for Gus Barrerio--he gets it right with these kinds of things most of the time. Everyone of us who is losing our jobs shuld read her long "poor me, you got it all wrong" treatise. It might just make you laugh.

Do you think anything will come out at the nurses trial about the boy at Gulf Coast Youth Academy who kept saying his leg hurt and was given motrin and later accused of faking it who was later diagnosed with bone cancer?

Re: the kid with bone cancer---they are actually trying a nurse? Any more details? Very posssible but they should be going after the administrators and whoever at DJJ oked the non-treatment. Do you know what circuit this was filed in?

Who in DJJ is rsponsible for crunching the numbers and basically hiding 1st offenders, etc, in another part of JJIS.
To make it look like crime is going down...anyone who lives in FL know the truth about that one. This is a major cover-up---worth a legislative heads-up. Consider it done.

It was in Ft.Walton Beach,Florida..Ragtop Kaplan probably paid someone off..ask Bonnie the Head Nurse....or Howland Ellis

Ragtop is our secretary's fave, dont you know? So they passed their own responsibility onto the nurse. Seems to be s similar trend. a few yearss ago, they got a nurse arrested and jailed for over a year because he reported abuse...he finally won a 7 MILLION dollar jury trial. Not saying the Ft Walton nurse isnt culpabable. Never was impressed with the way ragtop and his crony nurse ran the program...its a shame no one dares to touch him...

Crunching Numbers,
You are probably addressing the Civil Citation Program. In theory it is a good program. The nefarious thing about it is that the state is not counting the referrals in an effort to cut state jobs.By hiding such statistics, they will try and cut another 10%-20% from the budget. Also, closing the Detention Centers, and putting Juveniles in County Jails, is a disaster waiting to happen. Follow the $$$$.

Speaking of the graft and greed that has always defined DJJ, the prior secretary who arranged things so he could "work from home" which just happened to be St. Pete, has still to go before and administrative judge to determine if the findings of the Ethics commission are valid....doubt that this corrupt semi-gangster will receive any justice or consequences. Wonder what would happen if one of us stole over 100K from the agency?
